It's Jack and his unrealistic perspective's first week back as an 8th grader at Bandy Accelerated Middle School in rural eastern Kansas, and reality is setting in fast because Topeka was recently hit with an F5 tornado. The Candles of Kansas talent show is the first nice escape for Bandy's lifeblood to look forward to on the first Friday of school. Worrying about winning the talent show for the third and final time isn't Jack's concern, as he's more occupied with worrying about girls, gossip, and good times, let alone thinking about a tornado that hasn't affected him and his family. Slowly but surely, his peace of mind starts to stir as the winds of change leave their marks on people close to him, and people he does and doesn't want to be close to him. Unfortunately for Jack, time likes to walk and talk faster than he does. In the end of this year's summer season, unless Jack can find a way to keep up his reason with his rhyme, he'll find himself left back in his own unrealistic time.
