Behind every great idea is someone who gets the word out. Circumstances fall into place so that an individual who might not even have a full grasp of the concept becomes the pilot for its dissemination. The timing is essential. Opportunities arise to do interesting things without disturbing the normal flow of life. It could be a task subtly given to someone whose only thought is to return a favor. This could be the case that set Christianity on its improbable way. During the heyday of the early Roman Empire, there were many interesting competing philosophies with their schools and religions with their temples. Almost all had their brilliant teachers and proponents, but very few effectively distributed their messages to small towns throughout the land. Christianity was in the mix. It had its heroes and orators who hit the big towns with their tenants. There was also something going on that informed the poor and the slaves in the villages and smaller towns. This network provided guidance to people in every nook and cranny of the civilized world, which made it the dominant religion of the land despite government disapproval and variant interpretations. Somebody made it happen. Possibly it was just an individual unknown to history or any existing document. This person was inadvertently in a good position to do the job, had a practical idea on how to make it work, and was fortunate enough that everything went just right to make the venture successful.
