The object is to supply simple and brief Expositions of Divine Truth, suitable for domestic instruction and closet meditation; thus aiding the priest over his closet meditation; thus aiding the priest over his own house in conducting family worship, and in other ways training his children and his household for God and eternity. It has been the earnest aim of the author to make Christ the substance of each reading and the centre of the entire work; that, viewing the subject from any standpoint, He may be seen as the one Object around whom all Divine honour clusters, from whom all saving truth emanates, and towards whom all Christian experience and practical godliness should converge. Octavius Winslow stood out as one of the foremost evangelical preachers of the 19th Century. A Baptist minister and contemporary of Charles Spurgeon he seceded to the Anglican church in his last decade. His Christ centered works show devotion and practicality.
